My husband, Charlie Scott - Chief of Waynesboro Fire Dept - and I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Company 80 and the Smith Family in the loss of one of our own. We are all tight-knit families and to lose a member, especially at such a young age, is tragic. But Roy was doing probably what he loved best and we will keep the "families" in our prayers. Stay Safe!

Roy and I were good buddies, we spent alot of time together when we were younger me him and brandon and jeremy were close. I would have never thought I would see the day that we would mourne his loss. He will forever be in my heart and remain one of my close friends, nothing will change that. My wishes go out to all of his family and friends and may we all get through to be with Roy someday. I miss and love ya man
On behalf of the Huguenot Volunteer Fire Department, we send our condolences for your loss. May our thoughts and prayers be with you all and may our Brother rest in peace.
This really hits home to me. I have served for 26 years and my son, 17 years old joined the fire department resently. I can't amagine the loss the family is suffering. My prayers are with you and May God be your strength through these times.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you all at this time. A loss of a fellow member is very hard to deal with especially losing one at such a young age.
Roy will always be remembered for what he done and what he was good at and that was helping others in the community, He will be missed greatly by all. Again my prayers are with you all and the family at this time. I leave you with this, BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS, Roy would want you to be.
Roy may you REST IN PEACE.

What pain we are in right now. I cannot imagine why something like this needed to happen. I know God has a plan for everything and we aren't supposed to question him .... but how can we not. Roy was something special. He had a smile that could light up a room and a personality to match. Anytime I was in a bad mood Roy was there at the station to cheer me up and make me laugh. I remember him joining as this polite, shy, quiet kid and how amazing was his transformation. The Roy I will remember now was still polite but had come out of his shell and made so many friends.
He will be so greatly missed by all of us. We must remember he is in a better place, a place where there is no pain or saddness but instead a place of eternal rest. There is no greater love than a man willing to lay down his life to save the lives of others. God Bless you Roy. You were truely a hero. May you rest in peace FF Roy Smith. And may we, as his friends carry his memory close to our hearts.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you all!!! There are not enough words to help ease the feelings of sorrow when you loose one of your own....but take pleasure in knowing that he did not go from this world in vain. He was doing what we all love...responding to the call, to help others!!!! Punch out his last alarm, send him off to serve a higher power and watch over each and everyone of us that still answer the call!!!!5-5-5-5. Rest in peace brother!!!!

Please know that Company 80 and The Smith Family are in my thoughts and prayers. We have a bond as firefighters that some do not understand, we are brothers and sisters all trying to lend a hand. Some are taken suddenly and we do not understand, but we know FF Smith is watching over us as we are called upon time and time again. Cherish the memories and build new ones each day and know that you touch the heart of someone every day.
May God be with you during this time of sorrow.
God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. (Matthew 5:4)
