It is such a great loss when we loose a brother/Sister in our line of work. My deepest simpathy goes out to the family, friends, and comrads of such a young person. From what i have read in newspaper articles this was one large gift of GOD to be able to be so giving at such a young age. To all the lives he touched, let him teach us thru his giving and ambition. God be with you son, I am sure that you will be missed.

I know that I speak for every Fire Fighter here when I say he was our Brother as well. Tears welled up in my eyes as I read the article and thought of the many Explorers I have seen through to becoming members of my own Department and worried that they would be safe. I was part of the response to Ground Zero and I thought I had surpressed the memory well enough but reading his comments about the wearing of the Gear was his way of paying tribute to 911 I lost it. When you strap a bottle to your back and decide that you are going to do this thing we do then you are a member of the Brotherhood......go with God Roy, hold the Door for me.

I was very close to Roy I thought of him as my own family I cared for him with all the heart I had left, since this happened another piece of my heart has been ripped away. I will cry because I miss him but I’ll remember him for the things we did together and the fun times we had. Roy was a very special person and I’m going to miss him a lot. Knowing I never got the chance to say goodbye is just heart breaking and I speak for a lot of people not just myself. I remember the first time we met I was in second grade and he was so afraid to show me his burns until one day he told me that he wasn’t afraid to show people anymore and then he finally showed me. I wanted to write this comment to share how much I cared about little Roy and I still do. And I wanted to send a special thanks to everyone who has helped out and has been thinking of the family. Thank you friends, family, teachers and especially all the Firefighters around the world I want to follow in your footsteps and be a HERO just like my good friend little Roy. Remember the brother of all the firefighters and know that he is in a better place and that he will never be forgotten. Love, Chianne May

My heart goes out to you, my brothers and sisters in Rockingham County (McGaheysville VFD), I served with you as a volunteer (Bridgewater VRS) and as career staff (Rockingham County Fire and Rescue). It is difficult losing a firefighter esecially one so young and vibrant as the stories are being told. I am deeply saddened by the loss of this young man. He would have been a great one and had a positive impact on the service. Honor him by still getting on the truck and helping the citizens of the response area as he would have done it. I am sure he will smile. Deepest sympathies.

Ralph

I remember when Roy got burned as a child, and then I remember him being at burn camp. Anyone who has never been to burn camp cannot imagine how courageous those children are. They grasp life so hard it’s touching. I never knew until this tragic accident that Roy had become a firefighter, but what a journey!! For him to end up helping people the way so many had helped him. I didn’t know him as he had gotten older. But, I know what it takes for a person to become a firefighter and to do the job that we do. He has overcome so much and has given back to others in such an unselfish and special way. His family should be so proud that they had such a giving son. I know he will be missed in the worst way by his family, his Co 80 brothers and sisters and by all those whose lives he touched along the way. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May time ease your pain and your memories heal your hearts.
