What seemed as though in the early morning hours of Nov 7th, 2008 as another routine fire alarm call turned out to be a tragic day for MVFC. While responding to what turned out to be a working structure fire -Firefighter Roy Dale Smith III lost control of his vehicle that early morning and lost his life. Our hearts are heavy today remembering our fallen brother. Gone but not forgotten.

Thinking of our Brothers in MCGaheysville Fire Dept and the Smith Family tonight. We had the honor to receiving the comforting presence of Roy and Amy at Emmitsburg last Month while we honored our LODD Steve Lapierre. We could feel the compassion they have towards our Brotherhood and their way of giving to those of us experiencing a recent loss that the biggest thing we can have are the memories of those that have left our world and that by sharing our memories somehow makes moving on just a bit easier. Thank you for sharing your memories of Roy III and being there for us and the many others who you have comforted over the years at Emmitsburg. RIP Roy III.
