October 4th-10th is Fire Prevention week. This years theme is "Hear the Beep where your Sleep"
Keep your family safe with a working smoke alarm in every bedroom.

Did you know that roughly half of home fire deaths result from fires reported between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., when most people are asleep?

Smoke alarms save lives. If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out. In fact, having a working smoke alarm cuts the chances of dying in a reported fire in half!

Cant afford smoke detectors for your home? Rockingham County Fire and Rescue has a program to provide smoke detectors at no cost.

Get a Free Smoke Detector
The Free Smoke Detector Program is supported by local civic groups and fire associations within the County and has been in place for more than 20 years. In an effort to make sure that our citizens are protected in the event of a fire, we will provide you with a free smoke detector if you are a resident of Rockingham County.

If you are in need of a detector, just fill out the Application for Free Smoke Detector. Once we receive your application http://www.rockinghamcountyva.gov/DocumentCenter/View/74
, you will receive a phone call from your local fire department. They will come to your home to install the detector at a time that is convenient to you.
